Probate

Probate & Estate Administration:
We routinely work with executors or personal representatives throughout the probate process and handle all phases of probate and estate administration, including:

  • Validating the will with the probate court
  • Filing all required notices
  • Inventorying and appraising estate assets
  • Paying outstanding debts and disputing creditor claims
  • Preparing, filing, and paying estate taxes, if applicable
  • Final distribution of the estate assets
  • Closing the estate

Estate Planning:
While not every situation can be anticipated, everyone needs to ensure well-being, protect assets, and provide for loved ones by establishing an estate plan. Regardless of a person’s wealth or family situation, everyone needs an estate plan. We routinely provide estate plans with three basic documents:

Durable Power of Attorney: this document designates another individual to make financial decisions on your behalf when you are incapable of doing so, either temporarily or permanently.

Advance Directive for Healthcare or Healthcare Proxy: this document allows you to select an individual to make decisions about the medical care you should receive if you become temporarily or permanently incapacitated.

Last Will and Testament: this document establishes how your assets will be transferred at the end of life, allows you to select guardians to care for your minor children, and names an individual, the executor or personal representative, who is tasked with carrying out your instructions.
